Congratulations to the peeps in Hartford on becoming the latest jurisdiction to join the increasingly long list of cities and states that protect the rights of their trans citizens.
According to Kerri Provost of the Real Hartford blog on January 10 the Hartford City Council UNANIMOUSLY voted for two ordinances that make Hartford the first municipality in Connecticut to have anti-discrimination provisions on the basis of gender identity and expression.
The ordinances add gender identity or expression to race, color, religious creed, sex, age, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, disability as classes protected from discrimination in City employment, employment with City contractors and housing.
They also mandate that gender identity be incorporated into the City’s Affirmative Action Plan and also allows aggrieved individuals to seek redress with the City’s Office of Human Relations.
Now let's hope that happens for the rest of Connecticut's municipalities as well and on a statewide level.
