Unlike Maryland's unjust trans rights bill, the folks in Connecticut are trying to pass HB 6599 , a trans rights bill with (ahem) public accommodations language in it.
If it's passed, Connecticut's trans community will be protected from discrimination in employment, education, housing, public accommodations and credit.
The bill has been in the Judiciary Committee and has had a hearing in which I posted the testimony by Deja in favor of it.
As you probably guessed, there was an attempt to add amendments to it by opponents that would force a transitioning teacher to be forcibly transferred to another school district or school against their will, but it and all negative amendments to the bill were defeated.
HB 6599 passed out of committee on a 27-14 vote and is now headed to the House floor for debate and a vote.
Way to go Connecticut! While we still have much work to do to ensure a successful outcome on HB 6599, this is some positive news after the cluster you know what that MD's HB 235 has been.
