Shut Up Fool Awards-Friday The Thirteenth Weekend Edition

It's Friday the Thirteenth, the calendar day that the superstitious amongst us fear.

Friday also brings fear on TransGriot for another reason.  It's Shut Up Fool! Awards day.

We set this day asidde on the blog  to face our fears as to how prevalent ignorance and stupidity is in our society.   It is our ongoing TransGriot mission to shine a bright light on that ignorance and stupidity, no matter how disturbing it is and where it comes from.

As usual, we had a bumper crop of stupidity and ignorance on display this week. . Michelle Malkin, Newt Gingrich, the Big Oil execs, Sen Orrin Hatch, .the Faux Noise crew, the HBS/WWBT crew, GOProud and Karl Rove

But this week's award goes to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)   The replacement for Jim Bunning has continued in his grand tradition of putting his foot in his mouth and uttering stupid statements, but this one was a doozy.

He said during a Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing Wednesday that those who believe in a right to health care actually believe in slavery.

Excuse me?

"With regard to the idea of whether you have a right to health care, you have realize what that implies," Senator Paul said, "It’s not an abstraction. I’m a physician. That means you have a right to come to my house and conscript me."

"It means you believe in slavery," Paul added. "It means that you’re going to enslave not only me, but the janitor at my hospital, the person who cleans my office, the assistants who work in my office, the nurses."

No senator, I believe that it's past time we had universal single payer health care like all other industrialized nations.   Health care is a right and not a privilege because I and a lot of other Americans are sick and tired of 40 million people not being able to see a doctor when they need to, and the rest of us who can afford to do so being gouged by HMO's for the privilege.

Oh yeah, Sen. Rand Paul, shut up fool!
